on personal stocktaking.

So I've decided to sit down and take stock of what has changed since, oh say, 8 years ago. The answer is (I hope), quite a fair bit. However, there's no real empirical way to prove it, asides from the occasional bump into old acquaintences, where you're offered the complimentary "my, you've changed!" line (which hopefully isn't a subtle hint that you've gained weight either).

I doubt any of my old pals would still be here, but if you are, you can always look back at this and see what's different.

As part of a fun exercise (fun for me, not you) to define myself, here's a little cap of what constitutes me at the moment:

- my name: still the same.
- current-must reads: neil gaiman's sandman, high fidelity, alec garland's the beach, alan moore's watchmen, j.d. salinger's catcher in the eye, garth ennis' the preacher, stephen king's writings
- current music: jazz which includes diana krall, ambient like zero 7 and air, pre-90s brit rock/punk, acoustic mayer and mraz, female vocals like corinne bailey rae, sara bareilles and ingrid michaelson, music that borderlines melancholia
- current movies: arthouse, horror, stuff that makes you think, question, and twists

- personality: semi-sanguine and choleric apparently, with a hint of melancholic. I can't really stand to be sanguine anymore, really. Oh, did I mention I'm awfully pessimistic? I also need my own space from time to time.

- things I like to do: karate, soccer, reading, watching films, cooking new stuff, listening to new music, playing the bass guitar + occasionally trying the electric and acoustic, walking around and exploring places

- places I would like to go: japan, france, spain, england, ireland+scotland, alaska, yellowstone park, italy, thailand, new zealand, germany

- I would quit my job to be: a writer, a professional footballer, a movie critic

I thought of a longer list in my head a few days ago, but it would start to read like a singles ad, so this is where it ends.

I think I'll like to know I've changed. After all, if I could travel back in time, I'm pretty certain that I would want to give myself a backhand to the head for being an idiot.

Is there anything I would change from my past? Oh definitely yes. There's so much I would rather change. But I guess the past makes up your now in many ways. If it wasn't for the falls and the mistakes, I won't be where I am really.

So the only way is to make up for lost time. There's not alot of time to do that, but hopefully every bit helps.
