the honest lies.

He's almost got it; it's just a fraction of an eternity away.

It's stuck in a loop on his eight-track mind. In the book, he decides that he will probably never get a better deal than what he has.

That was the plan, and he knew it. Thought it, lived it, preached it.

And yet.

He didn't think it would be like this. As familiar as old pajamas. But then again, about as interesting as them too.

Or he could just be a miserable bastard who's too used to being in a perpetual state of wretched cynicism and misery. Maybe he's self-destructive that way. Some people are just addicted to the downside of life. Maybe he's one of them.

Either way, he's gotta figure it out soon.
