say it isn't so.
I woke up this morning to an SMS and MSN message. A sickening dread swirled in my stomach as I leapt out of bed and headed straight for Soccernet.com. As I was looking at the headline, I couldn't believe it, couldn't quite comprehend it.
Jose Mourinho has quit Chelsea.
No player or manager is bigger than the club, but every true Chelsea fan and supporter knows that today Chelsea has lost a key part of its history. He was a controversial manager to the other clubs, but to Chelsea, he was the star man, the man who brought in the trophies, and the man who made the team champions.
Jose Mourinho is the first manager to bring the Premiership trophy home to Chelsea in 50 years. He guided FC Porto to Champions League glory in 2004, has transformed the English football landscape since taking over at Stamford Bridge in June 2004, winning two Premier League titles in his first two years in charge, the FA Cup last season and the League Cup in 2005 and 2007. Of the 185 games he has been in charge, Chelsea have won 124, drawn 40 and lost 21, a record that includes a 60-match unbeaten run in Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge.
Hell yeah he's the Special One.
Would you rather have a so-called unlimited chequebook funding by the chairman Roman Abramovich, or the inspiring winning manager Jose Mourinho?
I would choose Mourinho anyday.
I'm thinking the Man Utd fans would probably be the biggest gloaters, and the rest of you non-football fans wondering what in the world I'm whinging about, but boy, if football and your football club means that much to you as it has to me, you know that this has been a blue day for the blues.
Farewell and all the best with your future endeavours, Special One.
