Jose's Made Premiership Best In The World

ALAN HANSEN says England now has the best league in the world thanks to Jose Mourinho and Chelsea.

And his Match of the Day colleague Gary Lineker believes today’s Wembley showdown with Manchester United is the dream FA Cup final.

Former Liverpool skipper Hansen insisted: “The fact that England had three semi-finalists in this year’s Champions League is proof that the Premiership is now the best in the world.

“That is all down to Chelsea. They have raised the bar in this country and forced the other ambitious English clubs to respond.

“In the 80s and even in the 1990s you could win the English league with a better than average team. But not any more.

“To be Premiership champions these days you have to be top, top class. Chelsea have brought unbelievable quality since Mourinho became their manager and this season United have risen to the challenge and matched them.

“Liverpool have done the same and that’s why they are in their second European cup final in three seasons.”

Hansen will be part of the Match of the Day team analysing today’s final live from Wembley.
And presenter Lineker reckons the country is in for a treat. He said: “If you’d sat down at the start of the season and picked the teams to contest the first cup final at the new Wembley you would have gone for United and Chelsea.

“They are the two best teams in the country, arguably the two best in Europe, and there is absolutely nothing to choose between them.

“I defy anyone to predict the winner of this game with any degree of confidence at all.

“A few weeks ago it looked as though this game was going to be the middle of our own little world series — three clashes between bitter rivals to decide everything.

“Unfortunately they both got edged out in the Champions League semi-finals and the Premiership was already over when they met at Stamford Bridge last week.
“But that doesn’t detract from this cup final and I am sure both teams will give it absolutely everything to prove they are the best.”

Lineker and Hansen were astonished by the level of consistency demonstrated by both teams before they stumbled in their Champions League semi-finals.
